The Program in Gene Function and Expression is located on the 5th and 6th floors of the Aaron Lazare Medical Research Building, which opened in January 2001. The state-of-the-art facilities were designed to optimize laboratory research. A central "core" area accommodates the common equipment and facilities that are shared by all the labs, thereby maximizing the space available for individual laboratories. The laboratories themselves are contiguous, which not only serves to further optimize the research space, but also fosters interactions between researchers from different groups. The result is a highly interactive, collaborative and intellectual environment.
