UMass Memorial Medical Center is the largest health care system in Central and Western Massachusetts. There are approximately 1,500 physicians as members of our active medical staff, and 13,000 employees. In total, our hospitals have 1,093 beds. In 2006, we treated 58,762 inpatients, and counted more than one million outpatient visits. The pathology department is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, modern resident and conference rooms, and seminar facilities all in a central and spacious building. During the past year, there were 55,012 surgical pathology specimens, 62,243 cytology specimens and 81 autopsies. The clinical laboratories performed more than seven million laboratory tests that are utilized by laboratories throughout New England area. Library facilities include the University of Massachusetts Medical School library with over 60,000 volumes and 2,000 journals and the library of the Memorial Campus with more than 200 periodicals and an extensive collection of textbooks. All UMass online library journals and publications can be accessed from the computers in the resident’s room.
