Surgical (Selective) Pathology Fellowship
Description: This one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship is designed to provide experience in signing out surgical pathology cases for the transition from residency to practice. The Division of Anatomic Pathology accessions nearly 65,000 surgical specimens and nearly 100,000 cytology specimens per year. The attending staff includes 15 full-time specialty oriented surgical pathologists, 3 dermatolo-pathologists and a neuropathologist. The fellow will be responsible for signing out general surgical pathology cases. In addition, he/she will perform frozen sections at various UMass Memorial campuses. There are opportunities for rotations through the specialty services, signing out cases under the supervision of the attending specialist. The fellow will teach grossing skills to beginning residents. The fellow will present cases at multidisciplinary hospital conference. There will be opportunities for experience in the diagnostic application of special techniques such as flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and molecular diagnostics.
Requirements: Applicants must have completed a four-year AP/CP residency or three years of a straight AP residency and have passed Step III of the USMLE or the National Board Exam.
