Orientation & Networking
We are pleased that you have selected the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) as a place to develop and expand your professional career. This website is designed to direct you to the resources and information that are essential to your professional responsibilities. The site also provides links to policies and procedures, institutional resources, programs for career development, and information about life at UMMS and in the Worcester area. We offer many opportunities and resources to guide and support you on your successful journey with us.
The Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) sponsors programs designed to educate faculty about UMMS, encourage networking and collaboration, and ensure that faculty receive important information and announcements.
Getting Started at UMMS: See First Things for the activities that you must complete during your first days in
your new position. To learn more about getting started in each of the
missions, see Clinical Practice, Education, or Research.
New Faculty Orientation: a quarterly half-day event designed to provide new faculty at all levels with
an overview of the institution and to assist them in beginning a
successful career at UMMS.
Faculty Networking Lunches: scheduled regularly throughout the year, the Lunches are opportunities for faculty to meet informally, network, and exchange ideas. Brief programs during the lunches provide updates on important initiatives, celebrate promotion and tenure decisions, and honor award recipients.
UMMS Faculty NewsWire: an email communication sent to all faculty every Monday. It includes notices of workshops, seminars, and professional development programs, announcements of awards and funding opportunities administered by the OFA, and events of interest to faculty.
UMMS Faculty PROFILES: to search for faculty and their research interests at UMMS. Multi-disciplinary, multi-institution, collaborative teams are becoming increasingly important in biomedical research. UMassMed, under the sponsorship of the UMassMed Center for Clinical & Translational Research, has implemented the PROFILES research networking software. We encourage you to browse the site.
