Academic Personnel Policy Revision 2017

Current Information and Resources

The Academic Personnel Policy (APP) defines the personnel policies (appointment, promotion, tenure, employment) for all UMMS faculty. The APP describes how we recognize and reward our faculty for their academic work and scholarship. As a product of our shared governance, a strong policy that can supported by both faculty and administration is vital for the academic excellence of UMMS. It is also essential that this document remain current: to reflect the widening scope of faculty activities at UMMS, as well as global changes, such as broader definitions of scholarship and the growth of collaborative studies.

Accordingly, in June 2015, Provost Flotte initiated a process to review and revise the APP, last revised in 2006. The process has engaged many faculty and administrators (see background), through a Retreat, the work of the Academic Advancement Working Group (AAWG), and feedback in response to presentations at Faculty and Executive Councils and department meetings. This work has culminated in a draft of the revised APP, now available for faculty review.

Please note that this draft supersedes, and in some places is substantially different from, materials that have been previously released. This version is a working draft that can be modified before it is brought to a vote of the faculty and governance bodies.
