A blood test done on maternal serum early in the first trimester of pregnancy to determine if a baby has Down syndrome, Trisomy 13 or Trisomy 18, underwent a clinical trial last year at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Tiffany Anne Moore Simas, MD, MPH, MEd, associate professor of obstetrics & gynecology and pediatrics, lead the trial at UMass Medical School.
