The latest Artist in Residence exhibit hosted by the Lamar Soutter Library is a collection of artwork curated by members of the Curator in Training program at ASPIRE! of the Seven Hills Foundation. “Transitions: a passage, a metamorphosis” showcases the work of adults with disabilities who attend day and residential programs at Seven Hills. The goal of ASPIRE! is to provide opportunities for people with disabilities to develop skills necessary to pursue interests in employment, recreation and social interaction while cultivating a network of relationships in and around their communities. The Seven Hills Curator in Training class is a grant funded, year-long program that provides adults with disabilities the skills needed to design and develop art exhibits while at the same time showcasing and celebrating the talents of their peers.

Using many styles and mediums, the ASPIRE! artists express and create images inspired by the transition of the changing seasons, from brisk autumn into the crisp sting of snowfall, according to their artists’ statement.

This body of work represents the alteration and effect of time. As a group we have narrowed our focus to a particular passage in time. Many artists have been inspired by the transition from fall to winter,” the curators wrote in their statement. “This has been a great opportunity to explore what the word means in context to our human relationship to Earth.

Sponsored by the Worcester Arts Council, Massachusetts Cultural Council, Seven Hills Curator In Training Program and the Lamar Soutter Library, “Transitions: a passage, a metamorphosis” will be on display from Wednesday, Nov.4, to Monday, Dec. 28. An artists’ reception will be held Thursday, Nov. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the library.
