Celebrating faculty, students and scholarship at UMass Medical School

Optimism and joy prevail during Convocation Week 2013

UMass Medical School celebrated Convocation 2013 with a weeklong calendar of events. The annual campus-wide salute to faculty, students and scholarship marks the beginning of the new academic year.

Anyone who missed the events, which took place on campus from Sept. 17 to Sept. 20, can view them in their entirety at the special Convocation website.

This video captures the excitement and joy which prevailed—and the reasons why UMass Medical School has much to celebrate and more to achieve, according to Chancellor Michael F. Collins, who presided over each event.

“Thousands of physicians, nurses and scientists have graduated from our campus and served their professions here at home and across the globe,” said Dr. Collins. “Our commonwealth has benefited from its investment in our future and our region thrives due to our commitments and presence in its midst.”

But not content to rest on the laurels of the thriving academic health sciences center UMass Medical School is already, Chancellor Collins urged, “Let us engage in a meaningful exchange about what we can become. Let us aspire and inspire.”
