May 31 is deadline for Family Medicine Education Consortium creative writing awards

Silk urges Thursday Morning Memo writers to enter competition

Thursday Morning Memos founder Hugh Silk, MD, is urging authors to submit their works to the Family Medicine Education Consortium’s Creative Writing by Family Physicians competition. The deadline is Friday, May 31. Winners will be celebrated at the FMEC conference taking place in Philadelphia this November.

“I want to encourage you all to submit your wonderful writing. You can use your TMM entries or anything else you have been writing about,” wrote Dr. Silk, associate professor of family medicine & community health, in one of the final weekly Thursday Morning Memo communiqués before the series goes on summer hiatus.

FMEC invites medical students and family medicine faculty and clinicians in the northeast United States to submit stories, poems and other forms of fiction or non-fiction writing that derive from their experiences teaching, learning or practicing family medicine.

Previous FMEC creative writing award winners from UMMS are current family medicine resident Noah Rosenberg, MD, SOM ‘12; former resident Katy Brodski-Quigley, MD, and School of Medicine and family medicine residency alumna Allison Hargreaves, MD, assistant professor of family medicine & community health.
