Penny Matthews took her first photography class when she was in first grade and she has been taking photos and painting ever since. Her favorite subjects, she said, are “almost always those things we catch by accident in a moment in life where we need strength and motivation to keep going.” Her work will be featured in the next installment of the Lamar Soutter Library’s Artist in Residence series.

Matthews’ exhibit In case you missed it . . . small moments in life that caught my attention will be on view from Tuesday, Dec. 18, through Tuesday, Jan. 29. A reception will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 5 p.m. on the first floor of the library.

Matthews has previously shown her work in several community exhibits, including at Booklovers’ Gourmet and Windsor Paint Center in Webster and at Four Corners Restaurant in Quinebaug, Conn. She has worked for UMass Memorial Health Care at South County Pediatrics for 10 years.
