UMass President Robert L. Caret, PhD, stopped in Worcester on Thursday, Oct. 4, as part of his four-day, statewide bus tour to kick off the UMass 150th anniversary next year and to celebrate the 150th anniversary this year of the Morrill Land Grant Act, the landmark legislation that created much of our national network of public higher education. He met with WooFood founders Mitch Li, SOM’13, Matt DeWolf, SOM ’13, and Adam Chin SOM ’14, and UMass Trustee Norm Peters at the Flying Rhino, a WooFood certified restaurant. WooFood certification enables customers to identify restaurants that have demonstrated a commitment to health, and identify and choose healthful menu items marked by an official WooFood logo.
President Caret then continued on to visit BRM/Biomere Laboratory, a research organization that develops specialty animal models, especially in diabetes, arthritis and cardiovascular. Founder and CEO Dennis Guberski and a number of his top leadership team were educated at UMass, including five senior employees who received PhDs or did post-doctoral work at UMMS.
