Newsmaker: Sanghavi on sudden cardiac death screening

UMass Chan pediatric cardiologist participates in youth screening day

Darshak Sanghavi, MD, associate professor of pediatrics, appeared on Fox 25 News to talk about sudden cardiac death in teenagers and to promote a cardiac health screening for young athletes at Auburn High School on Saturday, Sept. 29, sponsored by the Nick of Time Foundation. Dr. Sanghavi said young athletes who die from sudden cardiac arrest are usually born with an undetected heart defect.

“That’s one of the reasons why we’ve really worked on trying to educate people about how these conditions can be screened for with tests that are not typically done,” said Sanghavi.
