Two faculty honored with Worcester Public Schools alumni awards

Charles Birbara, MD, associate professor of medicine, and Stephen Pezzella, MD, clinical associate professor of medicine, were honored with 2011 Distinguished Alumni and Friends of the Worcester Public Schools awards from the Worcester Educational Development Foundation, Inc., on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Hogan Campus Center at Holy Cross.

Drs. Birbara and Pezzella are both graduates of North High School.

The selection criteria focused on candidates of integrity who attended the Worcester Public Schools and have made exemplary contributions to their professional field and/or the betterment of society; have achieved outstanding success in academics, the arts, business, community service, humanitarian efforts and research; or serve as outstanding role models for Worcester Public Schools students
