In recognition of the diverse and unique perspectives faculty and staff bring to UMass Medical School, Chancellor Michael F. Collins will again present the Chancellor’s Award for Advancing Institutional Excellence in Diversity and the Chancellor’s Award for Advancing Institutional Excellence in Civility in 2012. Nomination for the awards, which will be presented at the Martin Luther King Day Celebration on Jan. 23, will be accepted through Thursday, Dec. 15.

The awards were created in collaboration with the UMMS Council on Equal Opportunity and Diversity (CEOD) and the Civility Committee.

The Chancellor’s Award for Advancing Institutional Excellence in Diversity is bestowed annually upon an individual or group exemplifying characteristics embodied in UMMS’ Diversity Statement. Similarly, the Chancellor’s Award for Advancing Institutional Excellence in Civility is bestowed annually upon an individual or group that best exemplifies the values described in UMMS’s Civility Statement.

One-page nomination summaries for these awards should be submitted to the Diversity and Equal Opportunity Office. In order to ensure that each candidate is evaluated on the basis of similar documentation, summaries in excess of one page will not be considered. A selection committee determined by the CEOD and Civility Committee will review all of the nominations and choose nominations to forward to the chancellor, who will choose the award recipients.
