Each year, Advanced Placement Biology students from public high schools and technical schools in Worcester attend UMass Labs for Worcester Area High Schools, the brainchild of Stephen Doxsey, PhD, professor of molecular medicine and biochemistry & molecular pharmacology and cell biology, and North High School science teacher Jane Raabis. The program enables these promising young science students to experience research and biology first-hand by working alongside researchers and using sophisticated equipment in state-of-the-art laboratories at the UMMS campus in Worcester.

“It gives them opportunities that go beyond the classroom, to say ‘maybe this could be me someday,’” said Raabis.
