Wen-Yu Hsiao defends her thesis

Congratulations to Wen-Yu Hsiao, MD, for successfully defending her thesis on June 19, 2020. Wen-Yu's project, "The Lipid Handling Capacity of Subcutaneous Fat Requires MTORC2 During Development," explored how nutrient sensing signal transduction pathways regulate the growth of adipose tissues.
"Her work, currently under review, uncovers missing links into how mTORC2 controls lipid metabolic genes and the role this pathway plays in orchestrating the growth of fat tissue from precursor cells," said David Guertin, PhD. "Her work is important to understanding the pathogenesis of metabolic diseases, such as Type 2 diabetes and to developing new therapies to treat them."
To celebrate, Guertin Lab gathered for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The group met outside at Worcester's Greenhill Park, where they followed social distancing guidelines.
Congrats Dr. Hsiao!
Wen-Yu, a trained MD, will now head to Seattle, WA to pursue a career in pathology.
