UMASS Outreach Program
| The goal of the Training and Education Section of the Massachusetts Human Embryonic Stem Cell Bank is to make the topic of stem cell research not only accessible, but also exciting and informative. Our programs are geared to a wide variety of audiences, ranging from k-12 and science educators to public interest groups. Our programs provide information about the opportunities and challenges associated with stem cell research as well as ethical considerations in this rapidly evolving field. | |
We have a number of exciting programs planned for the upcoming year; some of the programs include:
- Seminars and workshops on advances in stem cell biology and technology for science and medical writers
- A legislative presentation on stem cell therapeutics and bioethics
- An ongoing seminar series with leaders in the stem cell community
- Workshops on the applications of stem cell therapeutics

Stem Cell Channel - An interactive website tackling the major issues in stem cell research and designed especially for secondary school students and teachers. The site provides a number of short video clips to illustrate different aspects of stem cell research.

Stem Cells Explained - An interactive tutorial from the University of Michigan on the basics of stem cells. Topics include embryonic stem cells, cell specialization, adult stem cells, nuclear transfer, and drug testing using stem cells.
A Stem Cell Story - A 15-minute movie from EuroStemCell introducing stem cell research, with segments on the potential of stem cells for the treatment of burns and diabetes.
