Hospital Medicine at UMass
UMass Memorial Medical Center hospitalists work closely with a hospitalized patient and his/her personal physician to coordinate and provide care.
The hospitalist chooses medical tests or evaluations, interprets test results, and works with the patient's physician to make essential decisions about the treatment plan. The hospitalist also is responsible for calling in other physician specialists for medical consults or to discuss further treatment options.
Because hospitalists are at the Medical Center in Worcester 24 hours a day, seven days a week, they are available to see patients as many times as needed on a daily basis.
In short, the hospitalists and the patient's personal physician work as a team to help the patient through a continuum of care that includes easy admission, a comfortable and compassionate hospital stay, and as timely a discharge as possible.
