Traditional Master's Track

The application deadline is March 15th for applying to traditional Master's in Science in Nursing for the Concentration in Population Health or Nurse Educator tracks. Applicants must submit a completed application to Nursing CAS by the deadline date to be considered for admission.  Application status emails will be sent to the email provided on the application via Nursing CAS.

Please note:  The GSN is no longer accepting applications for a master's degree in nursing with a population foci for nurse practitioner roles. Applicants interested in one of the NP tracks will need to consider the BSN to DNP program with applications being accepted starting in July 2015 for Fall 2016 entry.

Admission Criteria Traditional Masters

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Evidence of unrestricted Massachusetts licensure as a registered nurse
  • Undergraduate GPA 3.0 or higher
  • CPR Certification for Health Providers (BLS) by the American Heart Association
  • Acceptable Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
  • Completed Application by deadline date

Admission Criteria Pre-Masters

  • Bachelor's Degree in other field than Nursing
  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Evidence of unrestricted Massachusetts licensure as a registered nurse
  • Undergraduate GPA 3.0 or higher
  • CPR Certification for Health Providers (BLS) by the American Heart Association
  • Acceptable Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
  • Completed Application by deadline date

Admission Criteria Post Master's Degree

  • Applicant must have a master's degree in nursing from an NLNAC- or CCNE-accredited institution
  • Undergraduate GPA 3.0 or higher
  • Evidence of unrestricted Massachusetts licensure as a registered nurse
  • CPR Certification for Health Providers (BLS) by the American Heart Association
  • Demonstrated competency of advanced health assessment through successful completion of clinical performance examination or enrollment in NG615A and N615B
  • Have completed an Advanced Pathophysiology and Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics course. Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics must be taken within 5 years of matriculation if applicant is not a practicing Nurse Practitioner. If not taken at the Graduate School of Nursing the courses must be approved by the Program Director.  Send course description and syllabi tojill.terrien@umassmed.edu for approval.

Requirements for Admission

  • Completed Application submitted to Nursing CAS refer to Nursing CAS instructions for admission requirements.
  • Complete Graduate School of Nursing checklist, submit directly to the Graduate School of Nursing. (PRINT CHECKLIST)
  • A notarized proof of residency (all applicants, both Massachusetts Residents and non-residents, must submit). (PRINT FORM)

  • College Level Statistics Course with a grade of C or better
