The UMass MD/PhD Program invites approximately 60 candidates to campus for interviews. If you are selected, you will be contacted via email and asked to select from several dates for your interview day. Formal interviews have a two-day schedule and include the following.

  • Multiple mini interviews will be held by the School of Medicine between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. This includes an orientation, tour and an overview of financial aid and the curriculum.
  • Three or four interviews with research faculty in the Graduate School of Biomedical Science.
  • An overview of the MD/PHD Program which will be held prior to research and MD/PhD admissions committee interviews
  • An evening dinner with members of the MD/PhD Admissions committee and selected faculty members

On campus lunch and dinner out at a local restaurant with a group of current MD/PhD students provide a relaxed opportunity to meet you and answer questions about the MD/PhD Program at UMass.

The two types of interviews (MMI and research) are held on different days; each day will begin early, between 8:00am and 9:00am.

The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences does not provide travel funds for interviews. Lodging will be provided for applicants for two nights, sometimes three if the applicant is traveling from a significant distance.

When offered an interview, we request that you send us a short list of research faculty you are interested in meeting and every effort will be made to accommodate those requests. You should use these meetings to learn about our faculty and potential research opportunities. You can familiarize yourself with faculty research interests through the graduate school website.
