On October 8th, the UMass Memorial Development Office hosted Pink: Lighting the Way to a Cure. The event was attended by over 250 women and men who celebrated the lives of those touched by breast cancer by lighting a candle in honor or in memory of them. The event was chaired by Audrey Kurlan Marcy and emceed by Joyce Kulhawik, Arts & Entertainment critic, and three time cancer survivor. Also included were special messages from Hoda Kotb, co-anchor of the fourth hour of the "Today Show" and "Dateline" NBC correspondent as well as, Linda Ellerbee, writer and host of "Nick News", Nickelodeon. Community survivors shared their experiences with the audience and Dr. Robert Quinlian, Surgical Oncologist at UMass, discussed the latest advances in research and care. A surprise auction of three items autographed by Meryl Streep took place and raised $1,150! Click here to view some of the photos from the event.
