The Graduate Student Body Committee (GSBC) is an annually elected student committee that governs and coordinates student activities in three specific areas:
- Community service (GSBS Cares) in which students volunteer their time to the community.
- Career development workshops in conjunction with the Postdoctoral Scholars Office.
- Student social events that are organized for the GSBS student body and, in the spirit of interschool camaraderie, welcome students from the School of Medicine and the Graduate School of Nursing.
This year the GSBC will make funds available to support the activities of GSBS student groups by awarding up to six grants of $100 each. Applications were due by Nov. 15 and will be reviewed by the GSBC at the Dec. 1 meeting.
As a result of initiatives to meet the needs of international graduate students, the GSBC now has an international student representative. While it is expected to evolve, the immediate focus of the representative will be to coordinate transportation to and from school, supermarkets and laundromats until new international students can obtain drivers licenses and/or other means of personal transportation.
A list of upcoming events sponsored by the GSBC is included below. In addition to these, first- year students organize a social hour every Thursday in the student lounge.
