Epidemiology Requirements

Requirements for MPH in Epidemiology: 42 credits

Public Health Core:  15 credits

  • PH 630 Principles of Epidemiology
  • PH 540 Introductory Biostatistics
  • PH 620 Principles of Public Health
  • PH 601 Application of Social and Behavioral Theories in Public Health Interventions
  • PH 565 Environmental Health Practices

 Epidemiology Core:  9 credits

  • PH 632 Applied Epidemiology
  • PH 640 Intermediate Biostatistics
  • PH 691 Practical Data Management and Statistical Computation

Epidemiology Electives:  9-12 credits from the following:

  • PH 635 Psychosocial Epidemiology
  • PH 633 Communicable Disease Epidemiology
  • PH 624  Research Methods in Public Health
  • PH 631  Epidemiologic Investigation
  • PH 690  Designing Surveys in Public Health Research
  • PH 671  Risk Assessment and Management (on-line)
  • PH 583 Global Health in the Developing World
  • Independent Study*

Non-epidemiology Elective: 3-6 credits chosen from Health Policy and Management courses or on-line courses

Practicum Experience** :  3 credits    Students receiving a waiver of the practicum experience are required to complete an additional 3 credit  elective in epidemiology or health policy and management.

Culminating Experience:  3 credits for the MPH project

*   Independent study may be arranged for a maximum of 6 credits of epidemiology electives

** Practicum Experience may be waived with permission of Co-Directors
