Admission requirements include completion of all professional doctoral degree requirements in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA/CPA-accredited program as well as a pre-doctoral internship meeting APA, APPIC or CAPPIC standards. We will give preference to candidates with demonstrated training and experience in family therapy and/or behavioral medicine. Successful candidates commonly have previous experience in primary care settings. Family therapy or systems based training is highly valued.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates are especially sought after. Candidates who show enthusiasm for working in a diverse workforce with a very diverse patient population are sought. Minority and candidates with disabilities are strongly urged to apply.
We are an AAPIC affiliated progam and will follow their guidance about post-doctoral selection processes and timing.
Information for Applicants
The salary is $42,000 ($44,000 the second year with a bump to $45,000 once licensed.) Fellows are employees of the University of Massachusetts Medical School and receive the same benefits package as medical residents. This includes three weeks vacation, low cost individual or family health plan, disability and life insurance as well as a $750/year educational allowance to help with licensure materials or other types of educational materials/travel.
Advancement to Year 2 is expected and encouraged and fellows will be asked to sign a commitment letter at the end of the Year 1 to continue in the fellowship. In rare instances, if advancement criteria are not met, a fellow may not be invited to continue training a second year; however, opportunity for remediation would be offered before this decision is made.
We are currently recruiting and accepting applications for a July 2016 start date. We have openings for two positions. The application deadline is Janary 5, 2016.
The start date is July 1 though this can be delayed if the candidate we select is not available until September. Date of availability is not a factor in the decision making for the position. The fellow will be invited to an orientation program developed for the incoming medical residents to orient them to the University of Massachusetts, the training environment, expectations and policies and procedures. This occurs the last week of June. The month of July is largely reserved for a variety of orientation activities.
