RNA Therapeutics Institute (RTI): Introduction to Research Grant Administration and Finance

This internship will provide the opportunity to learn and participate in the research grant process, from application to award to retention of required documents post completion of a project.  The student will learn and understand the administrative and financial operations of a research department. 

The student will gain experience in the following areas:

  • preparation of required administrative and financial components of a grant application
  • set up of financial accounts for grant awards
  • purchasing requirements and documentation
  • reconciliation of accounts (grants and credit card statements)

The student will have the opportunity to interact with research faculty and staff to gain knowledge and understanding of the research activities in the department.

At the end of the internship:

The student will prepare a presentation outlining the major steps and requirements of the grant application and management process at the department level. 

The student will create a procedure document for the purchasing and account reconciliation processes learned during the internship.

Individuals interested in business, administration, or finance, or those who would like to explore these areas, will find this internship valuable.  Strong mathematical skills and attention to detail are needed.
