A creative new approach to support promising scientists early in their careers is taking shape at UMass Medical School, where gifts from The George F. and Sybil H. Fuller Foundation and The Glass Charitable Foundation are being used to establish five-year term chairs for three junior faculty in diabetes research, announced Chancellor Michael F. Collins. The researchers will each receive $300,000 over five years to support their scientific work. Read more.
UMass Medical School will invest two faculty members into newly endowed chairs this fall, Chancellor Michael F. Collins has announced. The chairs were approved by the University of Massachusetts Board at its June meeting.
Mary M. Lee, MD, professor and chair of pediatrics, professor of cell & developmental biology and physician-in-chief of the UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center, has been appointed the inaugural recipient of the Stoddard Chair of Pediatrics. Douglas T. Golenbock, MD, professor of medicine and microbiology & physiological systems and chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine, has been appointed to the second newly endowed chair, the Pillar Chair in Biomedical Research. Hundreds of runners, walkers and volunteers contributed to the 2nd Annual Gov. Cellucci Tribute Road Race on Saturday in Hudson in memory of the late governor, Paul Cellucci, and to benefit ALS research at UMass Medical School.Read more
