Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee / Drug Utilization Review (DUR) Board
UMass / Clinical Pharmacy Services provides clinical support to facilitate P&T Committees and DUR Boards. This support includes the development of therapeutic class and new drug reviews. In concert with the client, our Clinical Consultant Pharmacists prepare all reviews in a written format that routinely includes a recommendation based on the client's philosophy of formulary management. All clinical information is internally peer reviewed by a variety of health care professionals. Overviews of all reviews are then presented to the committee/board members by a Clinical Consultant Pharmacist available to answer any questions the members may have.
To complement the recommendations made and if restrictions are placed on the medications, the UMass / Clinical Pharmacy Services' Clinical Consultant Pharmacists prepare guidelines to manage drug utilization. The guidelines detail criteria for patients to obtain a specific therapeutic agent. UMass / Clinical Pharmacy Services further demonstrates commitment to individual clients by providing a variety of follow-up metrics. For example, we include a Quality Assurance report evaluating the appropriateness of the clinical guideline implemented.
