Toxicology Division Rocks the ACMT Meeting!

Great news from the Annual Scientific Meeting of the American College of Medical Toxicology

Mark Neavyn was named fellow-in-training member of the editorial board of Journal of Medical Toxicology, in a very competitive contest among national applicants.

Jennifer Carey beat a field of more than a dozen fellows from programs across the country with her presentation on heuristics in a mercury-poisoned patient. She is    the 2013 Open Microphone Competition Winner. Overall, the presentations were stellar, and really difficult, following Ignite rules. This award followed her acceptance as the ACMT board of directors’ intern.

Matt Zuckerman won the Fellows’ Research Competition for his proposal on evaluating the contribution of obesity to overdose death. Only the top 16 research proposals were accepted for presentation, and Matt won among this exceptional group.

We are an academic department of Emergency Medicine which provides emergency medical care at the many of the emergency departments of Umass Memorial Healthcare as well as prehospital care through Worcester EMS and UMass Memorial LifeFlight.

Our Emergency Medicine Residency and subspecialty Fellowship programs prepare Emergency Medicine Physician specialists for academic and community practice. Research activities focus on answering a variety of clinical and basic science questions. Our Continuing Medical Education and International Emergency Medicine Programs provide educational and training opportunities to the national and international Emergency Medicine and Disaster Response communities. The UMMS Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT MA-2) is part of the National Medical Disaster System and responds, if called upon, in the event of national or international medical disasters.

For Disaster Preparedness see our Center for Excellence for Emergency Preparedness and Training .
