Faculty Participation in Commencement
Commencement 2009 will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2009. This is a very special occasion for both students and faculty – extra special this year because the event will be held right here on our campus.
For our graduates, faculty participation in the Commencement celebrations enhances this recognition of our students' accomplishments. A large faculty presence is also a public testimony to our University’s commitment to their success.
The academic procession is one of the oldest university traditions and is widely viewed as a symbol of our collective dedication to the development of knowledge and academic inquiry. You are all invited to be a part of our academic procession.
Regalia
Academic regalia is required. Faculty who do not own their own regalia should order directly from University Cap and Gown, either individually or through your Department Administrator. You should return the rented regalia (gowns, hoods and tams) in the original box to University Cap & Gown, clearly marked with your name, on the day after the ceremony. Contact information is as follows:
[N.B. It has been our practice in recent years to wear tams instead of mortarboards.]
