University Model
As a public academic institution, the philosophy of sharing research and resources for the greater good is central to our work. Commonwealth Medicine, through the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS), actively seeks to partner with other public medical schools to impart our expertise and help replicate the success achieved in Massachusetts in serving vulnerable populations.
Through collaborative relationships with other mission-driven public medical schools, Commonwealth Medicine and UMMS can help those institutions secure additional state and federal financing for administrative and clinical programs. Such efforts aim to extend the capability of a state’s Medicaid program beyond simply an insurance program, into the delivery and management of managed care.
We believe partnerships between public medical schools and government health agencies can have a powerful impact on public health care. As such, Commonwealth Medicine offers our public medical school partners support in several areas, including the transfer of technical knowledge; consultation to inform policy decision-making and legislative initiatives; program design support; and administrative and clinical products and services.
These collaborations are mutually beneficial to states, which gain access to a wealth of health care expertise and clinical resources, as well as medical institutions, which enjoy meaningful involvement in health policy as well as additional funds to sustain programs.
