Our Medical School Relationship

Commonwealth Medicine, the health care consulting division of UMass Medical School, serves the people in Massachusetts, and beyond, through public service. We bring together the diverse group of organizations that grew out of the Medical School’s longstanding relationships with the state agencies that provide services to the citizens of the commonwealth, especially vulnerable populations.

Today, we help public agencies and nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and overseas improve the delivery of effective and cost-efficient health care. By integrating the Medical School’s cutting-edge academic resources with our division’s knowledge of public health care systems, we develop innovative, effective solutions to the health care challenges of nonprofit organizations and public agencies.

In turn, the Commonwealth Medicine division’s programs provide unique opportunities for UMass Medical School faculty and students. Medical School faculty benefit from collaborative access to research data on a wide range of specialized populations, while medical students enjoy hands-on opportunities to learn and train in an innovative clinical, community-based environment.
