Request for Proposals: Mini Symposia at the 4^th Annual UMass Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences Research Retreat

The 4^th Annual UMass Clinical and Translational Sciences Research Retreat will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the Sherman Center, University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester campus. We are requesting proposals for mini symposia to be held during this retreat.

Each mini symposia will:

· Focus on a topic of clinical and/or translational research

· Include one or two moderators and 3-4 speakers

· Last 75 minutes, with ample time (minimum 20 minutes) allotted for discussion

Through peer-review, we will select proposals for mini symposia that will occur during time-slots for the retreat allotted to concurrent sessions. Preference will be given to proposals that do one or more of the following:

· Involve investigators from more than one of the five UMass campuses

· Bridge the translational spectrum and include T1 as well as T2+ research

· Emphasize/build on research funded through UMCCTS-related intramural funding

· Involve investigators from more than one discipline

Proposals are due on: Tuesday, February 19^th by 5:00 PM (EST). Email an electronic Word document (only please) to Wanda DePasquale, wanda.depasquale@umassmed.edu

Applicants will be informed of the outcome of peer-review by Tuesday, February 26^th.

PROPOSAL FORMAT (Please strictly adhere to the following):

Proposal: Single-spaced, one page, Word format (only) using Arial 11 point font (Please complete each bullet below):

· Title of mini symposia

· Name, degree(s) and affiliation of moderator(s)

· Names of mini symposia presenters with degree(s) and affiliations

· Background and purpose of mini symposia, including scientific issues to be addressed

· Anticipated format (e.g., time allotted to presentations vs. discussion, degree of audience participation)
