See info on our 4 year grant!

Date Posted: Thursday, September 10, 2015

Dear Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that we are able to announce that the UMass Center for Clinical and Translational Science has been selected for a second 4-year funding cycle. In this new grant, the Community Engagement and Research Section will build upon to the foundation created during the last five years to both expand and deepen our work in several ways. We would like to take this opportunity to share highlights of our new grant.

We will continue to implement successful initiatives already established. For example, in March we will host our annual community-engaged translational research Symposium with keynote speakers, breakout sessions, networking, and poster sessions. We will also continue with consultation, webinars, our website (www.umassmed.edu/ccts/community), and this listserv.

We will create new initiatives to promote collaborative research in Worcester and the Outer Cape. We are creating two new Community-Based Research Networks (CBRN) to enhance the scale, scope and impact of collaborative research between UMass investigators and clinical entities, community organizations and departments of public health. The Greater Worcester CBRN will focus on fostering research on topics associated with the Greater Worcester Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). The Outer Cape CBRN will focus on collaborative research work initiated with the Outer Cape Health Services, Inc.

We will develop Campus-Based Community Engaged Research Training Programs in each of the 5 UMass campuses. These training and mentoring programs will enhance the capacity of junior investigators and community-academic research teams across the 5 UMass campuses to conduct innovative translational research that addresses priority health issues.

We look forward to working with you on these new initiatives. We welcome your thoughts, questions, and participation as we move forward together.
