I have been on the faculty at UMass since 2007.  From 1981 to 2001, I was on the faculty at The University of Chicago, as an assistant professor from 1981 to 1988, as an associate professor from 1988 to 1995 and as a professor since 1995.  In 2001, I left Chicago to go to the University of Iowa where I stayed until 2007.

My clinical interests include pediatric, ambulatory and liver transplant anesthesia.  I was president of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia from 2000-2001.  My research interests include longer-term effects of anesthetics.  While at The University of Chicago, I co-founded the department's psychomotor research facility.  I am an associate editor for both Anesthesia and Analgesia and Anesthesiology.
