Annual Massachusetts Adoption Survey
This multi-year survey project created a database on the nature and number of both private and public adoptions in Massachusetts. The Office of Foster Care and Adoption Education and Policy staff designed and implemented a survey-based data collection system to gather comprehensive adoption statistics for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The study includes six years of data collection. Updates have been made to the survey in response to changing trends in adoption practices. The current database includes five years of data from more than 50 private agencies and the Department of Children and Families (DCF), formerly the Department of Social Services (DSS).

Adoption in Massachusetts: Private and Public Agency Placements and Practices
From 1999 through 2004, The Office of Foster Care and Adoption published annual reports about adoption agencies’ adoption placement and practices.  Every licensed adoption agency in Massachusetts was asked to review their records to complete a survey about their adoption practices. The surveys were returned to OFCA, where they were examined for completeness, entered into a database, analyzed, and synthesized into a final report, a process that can take several months.
