Dear Friends,
Over the past thirty years we have seen the development of something wonderful for the health care of children in our community: in partnership with practicing physicians and many others, the University of Massachusetts Worcester has created a service unique to Central Massachusetts, with more than 100 medical and surgical specialists skilled and devoted to the care of children. Since 1992 we have been organized as the Children's Medical Center, a "hospital within a hospital".
|
In the past year our Children's Medical Center admitted over 3,000 children to the inpatient and critical care units, cared for more than 22,000 children in the pediatric Emergency Service and 48,000 children in the Ambulatory Service.
Medical care has been changing dramatically in recent years: many children with complex conditions such as cancer, diabetes and nutritional problems can now be cared for as outpatients rather than having to be admitted to the hospital. We have the specialists to provide that care and a facility especially designed for the needs of those children and their families. |
