Our Staff

Peter Riskind, MD, PhD is a Professor of Clinical Neurology and is the Director of the MS Clinic at UMMHC.  He received his MD and PhD from the University of Texas and completed his neurology residency at Massachusetts General Hospital.  He was formerly the Chief of the NeuroImmunology Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital and Director of the MS Clinic at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.  He specializes in Multiple Sclerosis and related neuroimmunologic disorders and is a member of the Clinical Advisory Board for the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  He is board-certified in Neurology and Psychiatry.

Carolina Ionete, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Neurology with training in treating Multiple Sclerosis.  She has recently finished her Neuroimmunology Fellowship at the UMMHC MS Clinic.  Dr. Ionete received her MD and PhD from the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania. She worked as an Assistant-Professor in Neurology at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest,Romania between 1993-2002

Jennifer Moodie, MD is an Assistant Professor of Neurology.  She did fellowship training at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Multiple Sclerosis prior to joining the UMass MS Center in September 2009.  Board certified in Neurology, Dr. Moodie received her medical degree from UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson and completed a residency in both internal medicine and neurology at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University.

Neeta Garg, MD  is an Associate Professor of Neurology.  She has extensive training in treating Multiple Sclerosis.  Board certified in Neurology, Dr. Garg received her medical degree from SMS Medical College in India, and completed a residency there.  After a fellowship in India, she completed a residency at JFK Medical Center/Seton Hall University in New Jersey.  She formerly worked at SUNY-Buffalo as an assistant professor of neurology. 

Roberta Beyroutey, RN, MN, CS, NP is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner, and has been specializing in Multiple Sclerosis care for several years.

Charlene Matte, LPN is the clinic nurse.  She is principally responsible for returning phone calls from our patients.

Joy Kemble is the center's administrative assistant and often the main point of contact.

Emmanuel "Manny" Osei-Bonsu, is our long-time patient care assistant.  

Carolyn Griffin, RN, BSN, CCRP is the Research Project Director.  She has been involved in research for several years and has received certification from the  Society of Clinical Research Professionals .  She is the main contact for patients who are involved in our research studies.

 

Affiliated Clinicians

Paula Bellin, MD is a board certified urologist with a special interest in female urology, incontinence, and kidney stones. Dr. Bellin is now able to see some patients in the UMMHC MS Center as well as in her private practice in Worcester, MA.  She is on staff at UMass Memorial Medical Center. She is also a member of the Central New England MS Chapter's Clinical Advisory Committee.

John Weaver, MD is Chief of Neurosurgery at UMass Memorial Health Care and is principally responsible for implanting intrathecal baclofen pumps.

Joan M. Swearer, PhD is an Associate Professor and Clinical neuropsychologist; Research includes clinical features and treatment of dementing illnesses, epilepsy and multiple sclerosis
