In celebration of the partnership between the University of Massachusetts Medical School and UMass Memorial Health Care, dedicated volunteers are organizing the first annual Winter Ball to be held on December 11, 2009. This premier fundraising gala for Central Massachusetts is the first joint and volunteer-driven, philanthropic event of this magnitude for our academic health sciences center. Through the generous efforts of our committed volunteers, the Winter Ball will prove to be a truly spectacular and successful evening.
The Winter Ball is an opportunity for individuals and businesses throughout the community to come together in support of our common mission to advance the health and well-being of the people of the commonwealth and beyond. Funds raised at the Winter Ball will support the Advanced Center for Clinical Care, Education and Sciences (ACCES) building, a collaborative effort by UMass Memorial and the Medical School that will bring outstanding and innovative care to the community. By locating ambulatory patient care centers alongside clinical and translational research programs, ACCES will accelerate the transfer of discoveries into new and more effective treatments in cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, heart and vascular disease and musculoskeletal disease.
In addition, dollars raised at the Winter Ball through sponsorships and ticket sales will be complemented by a matching grant from the Wayne and Gladys Valley Foundation. Through this generous grant, UMass Medical School/UMass Memorial is entitled to matching funds for all gifts in support of the construction of ACCES as well as the staffing and programs to be housed in the facility.
