Deborah L. Plummer, PhD
Vice Chancellor for Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion
Deborah L. Plummer, PhD serves as Vice Chancellor, Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion at UMMS and Professor, Departments of Psychiatry, Quantitative Health Sciences and the Graduate School of Nursing. As UMMS’s Chief Human Resource Officer, she is responsible for establishing the vision, providing leadership, strategic direction, and execution of our People Strategy. In this capacity, she oversees the management of all Human Resources and Diversity services including Employee Relations, Total Rewards, Labor Relations, HR Information Systems, Talent Management, HR Effectiveness, Employee Assistance Program, and Wellness Work Life.
As UMMS’s Chief Diversity Officer, Deborah shapes and leads the Medical School’s embrace of diversity as fundamental to its institutional excellence. Working collaboratively with our clinical partner, UMass Memorial Health Care, she has primary responsibility for setting the vision, providing leadership, strategic direction and coordination of all aspects of affirmative action/equal opportunity commitment and regulatory compliance obligations. In addition, the Diversity and Equal Opportunity Office (DEOO) mediates and resolves conflicts related to uncivil behavior, harassment and discrimination. Working collaboratively with UMMS leadership, Deborah develops and executes a coordinated and comprehensive diversity plan that cultivates an inclusive academic health sciences center.
As Vice Chancellor, Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion, Deborah has a core role in preserving and enhancing our aspirant culture of respect, civility and high performance.
