Welcome to UMass Psychiatry!
Welcome to the University of Massachusetts and UMass Memorial Health Care Department of Psychiatry located in beautiful central Massachusetts. We are the largest provider of psychiatric services in central Massachusetts, with over 400 faculty members and 12 hospitals and community mental health centers.
We are fortunate to be part of the UMass Chan Medical School, a world class research and educational institution, and the UMass Memorial Health Care System that offers cutting edge, exceptional care. Our department offers patient-centered clinical care at UMass Memorial Medical Center, our academic teaching hospital, and in a variety of community and hospital settings.
We have critical state partnerships, including staff in the historic Worcester Recovery Center where the father of the American Psychiatric Association developed humane care for people with mental health disorders. Our research focuses on treatment, implementation and prevention of psychiatric illness with a mission to improve the mental health of individuals in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and beyond.
Our residency program trains seven residents per year, including general psychiatry and specialty tracks for combined adult and child psychiatry and combined neurology. We are especially proud of our post residency training programs that include specialty opportunities in child psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, psychopharmacology, women’s mental health and neuropsychiatry. From research to training to excellence in clinical care, the Department of Psychiatry at UMass offers outstanding leadership in behavioral health.
