Welcome to the Department of Genomics and Computational Biology (GCB) at the UMass Chan Medical School. Originally established as the Program in Bioinformatics and Integrative Biology in 2008, our group has evolved into a full-fledged department, reflecting our growth and the expanding scope of our research. Our department embodies the convergence of Computational Biology, Evolutionary Biology, and Genomics. We are committed to advancing our understanding of biological complexity through cutting-edge computational methods, evolutionary theory, and genomic technologies.
Our research focuses on decoding and interpreting complex biological data through the application of cutting-edge computational and genomic techniques. This involves the integration of diverse datasets to uncover the underlying mechanisms driving molecular and cellular functions. Additionally, our work extends into evolutionary studies, where we investigate the regulatory mechanisms underlying the origins, diversification, and adaptation of mammals. Furthermore, we investigate the interplay between genetics and epigenetics in human health and disease. We explore how genetic variations affect disease susceptibility, treatment responses, and the spectrum of human phenotypes, with an emphasis on understanding these processes across diverse populations.
In our dedication to scientific excellence, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment in GCB that reflects the diversity of the community we serve.
