NSF
The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 "to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense…" With an annual budget of about $6.9 billion (FY 2010), we are the funding source for approximately 20 percent of all federally supported basic research conducted by America's colleges and universities. In many fields such as mathematics, computer science and the social sciences, NSF is the major source of federal backing.

Department of Defense
The US Department of Defense (DOD) funds biomedical, biostatistical and clinical research relevant to the needs of the military. UMass Chan researchers have applied for and received funding from the DOD's Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP), the US Army Medical Department Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration (DARPA).
Corporate & Foundation Relations Grant Opportunities
The UMass Chan/UMMHC Corporate and Foundation Relations Office (CFR) functions as a liaison between members of the UMass community and companies and private foundations.
