Welcome to the Thyme Lab!

 WhatWeDo_ST3.png

We study how different genes contribute to intellectual disability in neurodevelopmental disorders with a focus on Down syndrome.

 HowWeDoIt_ST.png

We conduct large-scale analyses of zebrafish embryos to determine how genes and molecules influence neurodevelopment and function.

 WhyWeDoIt_ST.png

There are no effective treatments for most genetic neurodevelopmental disorders.

 WhoWeAre_ST.png

We are a friendly and sociable group of motivated researchers.

Research Highlights

A single-cell transcriptome atlas of the maturing zebrafish telencephalon
Pandey S, Moyer AJ, Thyme SB.
Genome Res. 2023 Apr;33(4):658-671. doi: 10.1101/gr.277278.122. Epub 2023 Apr 18. PMID: 37072188; PMCID: PMC10234298.

We define the cell types in the zebrafish forebrain across multiple ages and discover how they change between larval and adult stages.

Diencephalic and Neuropeptidergic Dysfunction in Zebrafish with Autism Risk Mutations
Capps, MES., Moyer, AJ., Conklin, CL., Martina, V., Torija-Olson, EG., Klein, MC., Gannaway, WC., Calhoun, CCS., Vivian, MD., Thyme, SB.

We generated 27 zebrafish mutants with presumptive protein-truncating mutations or specific missense variants corresponding to autism-risk alleles in 17 human genes.

A customizable low-cost system for massively parallel zebrafish behavioral phenotyping
Joo W, Vivian MD, Graham BJ, Soucy ER, Thyme SB.
Front Behav Neurosci. 2021 Jan 18;14:606900. doi: 10.3389/fnbeh.2020.606900. PMID: 33536882; PMCID: PMC7847893.

We provide a detailed construction manual for our home-built zebrafish behavior apparatus, as well as best practices for larval zebrafish behavioral experiments.
